In this course students will start from the very beginning and learn the fundamentals of accounting, its purpose, maintenance and how to use it to improve a business in a clear and easy to understand way. The curriculum is based on a real-world business start-up and goes through the process of setting up everything a small business needs for its accounting; from creating a chart of accounts, to maintaining monthly records, paying bills and calculating sales totals; essentially everything every business needs to track for tax purposes. Using hands-on activities with your instructor, students will complete activities that mirror what you will come across in an actual job or business. This course will go beyond just entering numbers into a program and will give students a real understanding of where those numbers come from and how to use them to improve a business.
